The mercury might have dropped recently, but spring is still on the horizon. Take advantage of the lengthening days and make the most of London. From a restaurant opening in Richmond to an Athenian cocktail bar pop-up in Soho, here’s how to spend your weekend…

CATCH A FILM: Escape From Pretoria

This film delves into South Africa’s unsettling past, as supporters of the African National Congress party challenged apartheid. Daniel Radcliffe and Daniel Webber star as members of the uprising who are sent to Pretoria prison for setting off fire bombs during a protest. This fascinating thriller charts how these two men – along with fellow prisoner Leonard Fontaine (Mark Leonard Winter) – escape from South Africa’s most notorious prison. Their tense story will help you escape too.

TRY UNUSUAL BRITISH COOKING: Bingham Riverhouse

Steven Edwards’ first restaurant is the excellent Etch in Hove. Now he’s launching a menu of seasonal British produce at Richmond’s Bingham Riverhouse. His à la carte dishes include guinea hen with cauliflower cheese and nasturtium; and kale doughnut with broccoli purée and gherkin. There’s also a Sunday Experience encompassing a five-course tasting menu. Bingham’s recently spruced interior should make a fine setting in which to try Edwards’ unconventional cooking.
