LISTEN TO SOMETHING FRESH: AMERICAN HEAD BY THE FLAMING LIPS

Oklahoma’s finest release their 16th full-length studio album on Friday. Across 13 tracks of trademark trippy rock, look out for vocal contributions from the likes of Kacey Musgraves augmenting lead singer Wayne Coyne’s gravelly warbling. The sounds might be classic but, according to Coyne, the album is the Flaming Lips’ first to reckon with their status as an American band in the tradition of the Grateful Dead and Parliament-Funkadelic.
