This year, the awards took place in Glasgow for the first time – and threw out some bold new choices. Each year, Michelin’s team of anonymous restaurant inspectors award venues with one star (“high-quality cooking, worth a stop”), two stars (“excellent cooking, worth a detour”) or three stars (“exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey”). There was one of the latter this year, as Mark Birchall’s brilliant Lancashire hotspot [Moor Hall](https://moorhall.com/) won a full three stars at last night’s ceremony (you can read our full review [here](https://sheerluxe.com/culture/restaurants-bars/restaurant-worth-travelling-moor-hall)). There was a trio of exciting two-star announcements too. In London, brilliant Soho restaurant [Humble Chicken](https://www.humblechickenuk.com/) upgraded to two stars and John Williams’s restaurant at [The Ritz](https://www.theritzlondon.com/dine-with-us/the-ritz-restaurant/) finally earned a very well-deserved second star. Over in Kent, [Hide & Fox](https://hideandfox.co.uk/) also took home two Michelin stars. In total, 22 restaurants picked up their first star. London teams earning their first accolade include SheerLuxe’s [best new restaurant](https://sheerluxe.com/culture/restaurants-bars/sheerluxe-london-bar-restaurant-awards-winners-2024) of 2024, [Oma](https://www.oma.london/) in Borough Market; brilliant Asian restaurants [AngloThai](https://anglothai.co.uk/) and [Dosa](https://www.mandarinoriental.com/en/london/mayfair/dine/dosa); [64 Goodge Street](https://64goodgestreet.co.uk/), [Mauro Colagreco at Raffles London at The OWO](https://www.raffles.com/london/dining/mauro-colagreco/); [Cornus](https://cornusrestaurant.co.uk/); [Lita](https://litamarylebone.com/); Emily Roux’s [Caractère](https://www.caractererestaurant.com/) and Jason Atherton’s new place, [Row On 5](https://www.rowon5london.com/). Perhaps most notably, [Plates](https://plates-london.com/) became the UK’s first fully vegan restaurant to earn a star. [ ![Mauro Colagreco at Raffles London at The OWO, London](https://media.slman.com/Ycv0-UIhDBEPR-CVIlQdd0vasTc=/800x0/smart/https%3A%2F%2Fslman.com%2Fsites%2Fslman%2Ffiles%2Farticles%2F2025%2F02%2Fsl-110225-michelin-guide-2_0.jpg) ](https://www.raffles.com/london/dining/mauro-colagreco/) Mauro Colagreco at Raffles London at The OWO, London Justin De Souza Across the rest of the UK and Ireland, Cardiff won its first Michelin star for [Gorse](https://www.gorserestaurant.co.uk/); Manchester celebrated with a win for Tom Barnes and his new restaurant [Skof](https://www.skofmanchester.co.uk/); Bristol favourite [Wilsons](https://www.wilsonsbristol.co.uk/) added a star to its list of accolades; SL favourite [Lyla](https://lylaedinburgh.co.uk/) in Edinburgh gained a first star for Scottish chef Stuart Ralston; and [Forge](https://middletonlodge.co.uk/eat/forge/) at Middleton Lodge, Yorkshire, won a Michelin star – which follows its Green star last year (read our full review [here](https://sheerluxe.com/culture/restaurants-bars/middleton-lodge-reviews)). In 2021, the guide added a Green star to its roster, which recognises sustainable gastronomy and distinguishes restaurants taking responsibility in the conversation of resources and the protection of biodiversity. Five were announced this year: [Homestead Kitchen](https://thehomesteadgoathland.com/the-homestead-kitchen/) in Goathland; [Jericho](https://restaurantjericho.com/) in Plungar; [Native](https://www.nativerestaurant.co.uk/) in Tenbury Wells; [Pythouse Kitchen Garden](https://www.pythousekitchengarden.co.uk/) in Tisbury; and [Wild Shropshire](https://guide.michelin.com/gb/en/shropshire/whitchurch/restaurant/wild-shropshire) in Whitchurch. This year, the Michelin Bib Gourmands were also unveiled at the ceremony. Named after Bibendum – the Michelin Man – the Bib Gourmand distinction “highlights restaurants offering good food at competitive prices”.
