## Oudh 1722

### Borough

Oudh 1722, the first London restaurant from Aktar Islam, will open in Borough on 1st May. Best known as the chef behind Birmingham’s two Michelin-starred Opheem – one of only two Indian restaurants in the UK, and four worldwide, to hold the distinction – Islam will present his version of Awadhi cooking through a menu that starts with shorba, a warm broth traditionally served to welcome guests. Look too for street-style naashta snacks, kebabs, slow-cooked ‘dum’ dishes and richly layered curries designed for sharing.

## CeCe’s

### Notting Hill

Public House Group is the crew behind the Bull in Charlbury and the Pelican, the Hart, Canteen, the Fat Badger and the Hero in London. They’ve just opened CeCe’s in Notting Hill. The menu is rooted in classic Italian cooking, with a hint of Hollywood. Dishes include aubergine parmigiana, bream carpaccio with caviar, fonduta agnolotti, chicken vignole and bistecca alla fiorentina. Set across two floors, the restaurant feels opulent yet intimate. Soft fabrics balance the glossy finishes and low lighting to make it an ideal place to settle in for the evening.

## Hoppers

### Shoreditch

A decade after launching its Soho original, Hoppers has opened its fourth London restaurant in the former home of much-missed Lyle’s (and has done a glorious job of decorating the formerly all-white interiors with colour, gilding and Sri Lankan artwork). Widely credited with bringing Sri Lankan cuisine into the mainstream, Hoppers now turns its focus towards southern India. Founder Karan Gokani and his team are exploring five distinct culinary heartlands: Chettinad, Madurai, Bangalore, Kochi and Chennai. Expect bold spice blends, layered curries and regionally specific dishes that go beyond the brand’s established dishes – we loved the soft-shell crab kari omelette and lamb benne dosa – alongside old favourites such as devilled panner, chilli chicken chop and, of course, the egg hopper pancakes themselves.

## Osteria Vibrato

### Soho

Opened on Valentine’s Day by Charlie Mellor (The Laughing Heart) and Cameron Dewar ([Luca](https://luca.restaurant/)), Osteria Vibrato is a celebration of regional Italian cooking. The name – a musical term describing resonance – nods both to Soho’s rich cultural history and Mellor’s early career as an operatic tenor. Created in collaboration with Gaia Enria (Burro e Salvia) and head chef Louis Lingwood ([Toklas](https://www.toklaslondon.com/); [Quo Vadis](https://www.quovadissoho.co.uk/)), the menu spans northwestern Italy from Liguria to Valle d’Aosta. Antipasti misti captures the restaurant’s generous spirit, showcasing its house-made fior di latte and smaller plates such as bagna cauda crostino and Albese-style raw beef. Fresh pasta is rolled daily, with classics like tagliatelle with ragù and mezze maniche alla gricia championing simplicity and exceptional produce. Interior touches, which include Murano chandeliers, terrazzo floors and candlelight, lend the space a romantic, old-school warmth.

## Bar Etna

### Newington Green

Bar Etna is an East Coast-style pizza bar from Four Legs founder Ed McIlroy and Philadelphia’s own Joe Beddia of Pizzeria Beddia. It’s the first restaurant outside the States for Joe, whose Pizzeria Beddia is widely credited with redefining modern American pizza. Bar Etna will champion Joe’s signature pizzas alongside rotating seasonal specials made with the best produce. There will also be a menu of Italian-American favourites, including aubergine parmigiana, caponata and classic meatballs.

## DakaDaka

### Mayfair

Now open on Heddon Street, DakaDaka brings the bold flavours of Georgia to the West End. Celebrating one of the world’s oldest culinary traditions, open-fire cooking sits at the centre of the menu, which features steaming khinkali dumplings and skewers cooked over charcoal in the open kitchen. Larger cuts of meat and slow braises add depth, while signature snacks showcase the interplay of herbs, spice and smoke that defines Georgian cuisine. The wine list, put together by one of our favourite sommeliers Honey Spencer, includes over 100 Georgian bottles, and there are cocktails featuring house-made chacha (a Georgian brandy).

## Cafe Kowloon

### London Fields

From the team behind [Mr Bao](https://mrbao.co.uk/) and [Daddy Bao](https://daddybao.co.uk/) comes Cafe Kowloon, a modern Cantonese restaurant inspired by Hong Kong’s eclectic dining culture. Tucked behind [Wonton Charlie’s](https://www.instagram.com/wontoncharlies/) noodle bar in London Fields, you pass through one concept before arriving at a family-style dining room complete with lazy susans on every table. The menu draws on dai pai dongs, cha chaan tengs and dim sum houses, balancing nostalgia with contemporary flair. Highlights include grilled curry fish ball skewers, wok-fried cheung fun in shiitake XO, chargrilled secreto char siu and a playful Hong Kong French toast dessert. Drinks are similarly inventive.

## Simpson’s In The Strand

### West End

One of London’s most storied dining rooms returned in February. After six years away, Simpson’s in the Strand reopened under Jeremy King Restaurants. Housed within the Grade II-listed building at 100 Strand, the revived space now includes two restaurants, two bars and a small ballroom for private events. At its heart is the Grand Divan, which has been carefully restored to its Edwardian splendour – think timber panelling with marquetry detailing, deep red velvet and leather upholstery, original chandeliers and a convivial layout anchored by high-backed seats. The famed silver carving trolleys and master carvers are back, alongside a modernised ‘Bill of Fare’ rooted firmly in British tradition: grills, roasts, pies and game made with the best home-grown produce. We rate Romano’s, the upstairs restaurant that’s most like King’s old restaurant, the Wolseley. Expect a pie of the day, unfussy classics such as haddock goujons and chips, and a great dose of people watching.

## Gilroy’s Loft

### Covent Garden

Gilroy’s Loft is a rooftop seafood restaurant within the freshly opened Guinness Open Gate Brewery in Covent Garden. Led by award-winning chef Pip Lacey (Murano, *Great British Menu*), the menu takes a modern approach to British and Irish seafood, with sustainably sourced, line-caught fish supplied by Wright Brothers. Oysters are shucked at the central 20-seat bar, while playful takes on classics sit alongside standout plates like grilled half native lobster with tomato and pine-nut brown butter. Pairing the seafood with Guinness is of course central to the experience, with drinks crafted by master brewer Hollie Stephenson, alongside a concise cocktail list (including a Toucan Colada and Espresso Stoutini) and an expansive wine selection.

## Burro

### Covent Garden

Burro, the first solo venture from Conor Gadd (chef co-owner of beloved Islington institution Trullo), has opened in Covent Garden. It reflects the generous, produce-led cooking and warm hospitality that has defined Trullo for over 16 years. Antipasti includes salumi and house-made focaccia, alongside Venetian chicken livers on garlicky toast, a house caponata, and cuttlefish stuffed with breadcrumbs and anchovies. As at Trullo, pasta is the engine room of the menu, with comforting classics including a duck ragù made from dried porcini. Secondi include vitello al burro, dover sole with prosecco and caviar, and lobster acqua pazza. Puddings are fun: think tiramisu doughnuts and almond cake served with butter and a glass of ice-cold marsala from Curatolo Arini vineyard in western Sicily.

## Auguste

### London Fields

Within the former Papi site in London Fields, Auguste is a neighbourhood restaurant and bar built around arrosticini – the traditional flame-grilled skewers from the Abruzzo region of Italy. These charred skewers are served alongside a concise selection of dishes such as Roman-style artichoke, stracciatella with ibérico tomato and crème fraîche capoletti in lamb brodo. Upstairs, the restaurant seats 31 guests, with a small standing counter for walk-ins and an open kitchen at the rear, where the charcoal grill anchors the room. White tablecloths sit alongside rich walnut wood and soft pastel tones, with a playful palette of pale blues, reds and warm neutrals. Downstairs, an intimate bar offers a looser counterpart to the restaurant above, designed for drinks and late evenings.

## The Golden Tooth

### Newington Green

On the subject of Papi, the founders are currently gearing up to launch the Golden Tooth on 24th April. The new place in Newington Green will see chef Matthew Scott and wine merchant Charlie Carr running a pub (a more casual bar snack affair) alongside a 55-cover dining room. At the latter, the menu will specialise in grilled meats, chops, pies and smaller plates. Highlights will include turbot tranche with raw crème fraîche and grilled peas, old-spot pork chop with quince and kid goat chop with ezme salad. Wine will focus on micro producers and low-intervention wines, while shining a spotlight on homegrown English talent.
