## **Hawksmoor Seven Dials**

Hawksmoor has become almost synonymous with a good London steak. Open since 2010, the Seven Dials outpost remains one of the best places to go for British beef, cooked simply over charcoal and served in a dark, buzzy dining room that works equally well for a long lunch or a late dinner. Go hungry, order the beef-dripping chips and leave room for the sticky toffee pudding.

## **Goodman, Mayfair**

A Mayfair fixture for years, Goodman dry-ages its beef on site before cooking it over charcoal, with British and international cuts making up the menu. The setting is smart and clubby without feeling overly formal, while the wine list is designed for meals where one bottle inevitably becomes two. For a first visit, the bone-in cuts are the way to go.

## **Lutyens Grill, City**

Set inside the Ned’s former bank manager’s office, Lutyens Grill has the old-school atmosphere you want from a proper London grill: wood panelling, white tablecloths, trolleys and meat carved tableside. The menu centres around aged British beef, seafood and classic sides. If you’re looking for a steak lunch that can easily turn into an afternoon of drinks, this is the one.

## **CUT at 45 Park Lane**

Wolfgang Puck’s CUT is a polished option for a meal with a sense of occasion. Inside the 45 Park Lane hotel, the restaurant combines classic design and Damien Hirst artworks with a menu spanning Wagyu, USDA Prime and grass-fed Hereford beef.

## **Maison François, St James’s**

Not technically a steakhouse, but the steak game at Maison François cannot be ignored. Its daily bavette sauce Bordelaise with frites is a lesson in keeping things simple: just a properly cooked cut of beef, crisp fries and a classic French sauce. The handsome St James’s dining room gives it a little more polish than your average neighbourhood bistro, while the all-day format makes it just as good for a late lunch as an evening meal.

## **Kobe Steakhouse, Mayfair**

If you take your steak seriously, Kobe is worth knowing. Its Mayfair restaurant is one of a select number of UK restaurants registered with the Kobe Beef Association in Japan, with the menu focused on authentic Kobe and Wagyu alongside premium international cuts. The setting is sleek and contemporary, making it a good choice for a business dinner or a smarter night out.

## **MR PORTER, Mayfair**

MR PORTER takes the steakhouse formula and gives it a late-night makeover. The Park Lane restaurant combines fire-led cooking with premium cuts, seafood, cocktails and a serious wine list, all wrapped up in a slick, high-energy setting. There are DJs later in the evening, so it feels less like a traditional steak dinner and more like the beginning of a night out. Start, though, with the ribeye or one of the larger sharing cuts.

## **Blacklock, Soho**

Blacklock is rooted in the old London chophouse tradition. The Soho original sits beneath Great Windmill Street in a former club, giving it plenty of character, while the menu focuses on British meat, dry-aged steaks and generous chops. The whole-animal approach means the cooking is thoughtful without ever feeling precious, and the prices are refreshingly sensible by London steakhouse standards.

## **The Guinea Grill**

Tucked away on Bruton Place, the Guinea Grill is one of those rare London restaurants that feels largely unchanged by time. It opened in the 1950s and has been serving dry-aged, grass-fed British beef ever since. Diners can choose the steak they want from the counter. It will be cooked over an open grill and served in a traditional dining room with silver service, an extensive wine list and plenty of old-school Mayfair character.
