Atzaró: The Place To Stay In Ibiza
THE LOCATION
Orange groves, Mediterranean gardens and rustic interiors: Atzaró’s 13-hectare estate holds a firm place in the island’s history. Since its launch in 2004 by one of the island’s most prestigious families, it has been the go-to for high-profile guests from Kate Hudson and Chiara Ferragni to the Fendi family. A host of long-standing loyal guests are drawn to it for its beauty, charm and escapism – not to mention its proximity to all of Ibiza's hotspots.
Just 20 minutes from Beachhouse and half an hour from El Chiringuito, it really does allow you to dip in and out. Like a long lunch out before crawling back into an oasis? This is the place for you. If you’d prefer a quieter day, its pools, roomy day beds and unrivalled restaurants offer endless options.
THE HOTEL
The hotel scene in Ibiza might have reached new levels of luxury, but Atzaró is unpretentious in the best way and maintains its unrivalled, authentic roots. In its light, bright and simple rooms, the beds are big and comfortable – and each one comes with its own outdoor seating area. Currently, the hotel is home to 24 individual suites, although more are in the works. For those who want real privacy, the hillside villas tick all the boxes.
If nine pools don’t do it for you, then the private beach will. Imagine old-school Ibiza: relaxed, pared back and an uplifting but mellow vibe. The interiors are just as you’d imagine – think terracotta pots, natural wood and local plants. With your toes in the sand, you’ll find a sense of freedom that’s hard to recreate anywhere else. At a table with friends or lying back on a day bed, this is another destination the hotel has got spot on.
THE FOOD & DRINK
Food really is the hotel’s strong point. The team has partnered up with James Adams, a chef and food consultant for some of London’s top restaurants (think Spring, The River Café and Petersham Nurseries). The result is an excellent menu of Mediterranean dishes made with healthy and natural ingredients grown in the estate’s vegetable garden.
The hotel’s finca restaurant, La Veranda, is situated at the centre of the hotel, with an outdoor terrace beneath a vine-strewn pergola. Favourites include an unrivalled tomato salad, seabass carpaccio, a show-stopping lamb dish and a simple avocado and butterleaf lettuce salad.
Then there’s Aubergine By Atzaro ten minutes down the road. Its farm-to-table concept, even out of season, is bustling with local families.
WHAT’S NEW
This year, the hotel will take its world-famous spa to the next level. The new spa garden areas include a jacuzzi deck nestled among orange trees, an outdoor fire-pit lounge for meditation and healing workshops, an outdoor sauna pod and a sunbathing deck scented by lavender and rosemary bushes. Really, there's little else to ask for.
Rates at the hotel start from €230 a night in low season, for a double bedroom including breakfast, yoga & wellness classes and full spa facilities.
