What To Do This Weekend 01.12.21
GET THE DRINKS IN: Bloomsbury Club Bar
The Bloomsbury Club has reopened its doors with a slick new look. On the ground floor of The Bloomsbury hotel, guests can relax on plush leather armchairs and order drinks from the dimly-lit bar – some classic cocktails have been given a twist by the resident mixologist. Drinks can be accompanied by bar snacks like fries with truffle aioli, crab and avocado brioche rolls, and seared tuna with pickled ginger. Outside, there’s a winter terrace decorated with garlands and Christmas lights.

The Power Of The Dog has arrived on Netflix. This spaghetti western with an all-star cast has already been tipped to win big at awards season. Set in 1920s rural Montana, charismatic rancher Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch) inspires fear and awe in those around him, not least his sensible younger brother George (Jesse Plemons). SUPPORT A GOOD CAUSE: Key4life Emergency Appeal
More than two-thirds of UK prisoners reoffend within a year of being released, but UK charity Key4Life is working to reduce that number with its unique rehabilitation programme. Here at SLMan, it’s a charity we really believe in, but one which needs continuous support through mentorships, donations, work experience or even job opportunities for the young men on their programmes. Like most charities, the pandemic has put the charity under strain, which is why Key4Life has created an emergency appeal. To get involved, join the sponsored mile walk on Sunday 5th December at 9.30am from HMP Wormwood Scrubs to HMP Brixton, or set up your own fundraising activity. You can also make a donation at the below link.

TUNE INTO SOMETHING NEW: Hooked
Apple TV’s new podcast explores the true story of Tony Hathaway, whose addiction to legally prescribed opioids led him to spiral from a top job to becoming one of the most prolific bank robbers in American history. He robbed 30 banks in a single year, all within a 30-mile radius of his suburban home. But before he was a masterful bank robber, fooling police departments and the FBI, he was a design engineer at Boeing. Based on three years of conversations between Hathaway and journalist Josh Dean, Hooked is a fascinating true-crime story.
