RELAX WITH JAZZ: THE EFG LONDON JAZZ FESTIVAL

The EFG London Jazz Festival comes to a close on Sunday, but it’s not too late to experience the diverse range of jazz bands and musicians that event has to offer. The festival hosts a range of different experiences across the capital, including a special performance by accomplished saxophonist and composer Tim Garland and the Royal Academy Big Band at the Southbank Centre. If Garland’s jazz rock beats are a little heavy, why not witness the warm tones of jazz great Vanessa Rubin at Chelsea institution The Pheasantry and pretend you’re in the depths of a smokey New York bar.

try a new kebab here: babber

‘Kebab restaurant’ is no longer an oxymoron. In fact, one has just opened within the White Horse pub, Peckham. The man behind the grill, Joseph Ryan, learnt his stuff at Hoi Polloi and Salon in Brixton Village before becoming head chef at the legendary Peckham summer rooftop hangout Frank’s Bar and opening local restaurant Wildflower. At Babber, you can try chicken with harissa mayo, red cabbage and apricot relish; pork neck with ’nduja, pickled turnips and garlic yoghurt; lamb kofte with zhoug, marinated courgettes and tahini sauce. All kebabs are served on the house flatbread.

New to the weekly schedule is ‘Mondarin 30’ which will take place immediately after Saturday’s power hour and is your chance to relax, unwind and stretch out the tensions of the week (and the workouts).
