FOR INDEPENDENT ART AND GREAT FOOD: CRAFTY FOX MARKET AT MERCATO METROPOLITANO

Renowned as one of London’s best markets, the Crafty Fox Market brings together designers and emerging artists who are looking to showcase and sell their work. It’s a great chance to browse for unique art to display in your home and support independent makers. The market moves between different locations around the city with the aim of creating a space in which people are able to meet and collaborate in a relaxed setting, with a DJ and drinks on hand. When you’re finished wandering around, why not grab a bite to eat in one of the 40 food stalls on offer at Mercato Metropolitano, where you can choose pretty much any cuisine from Italian to Vietnamese.

SIT DOWN FOR SOME STAND-UP: Frank Skinner

After a five-year hiatus, Frank Skinner is back on tour. ‘Showbiz’ sees Skinner take his laidback brand of observational comedy to the West End for a five-week stint at the Garrick Theatre. Don’t be misled by the title: Skinner’s more likely to be talking about the joys of watching TV in his pants than the celebrity high life.

HIT THE CINEMA: The Lighthouse

This punchy psychological horror made a resoundingly popular debut at Cannes Film Festival last year and is nominated for this year’s Best Cinematography Oscar. Robert Pattinson and Willem Dafoe are on a deserted rock for four weeks, working at a lighthouse. Amid a couple of terrific performances that capture existential dread and the threat of lost sanity, look out for a few jump-scares. Shot entirely in black and white, you’ll also see why it earned that Oscar nom.

EAT SOMEWHERE NEW: Barboun

From the man behind Soho’s Hovarda, Barboun showcases Levantine cuisine using traditional flavours and ingredients from the region.  Start the day with a spicy shakshuka from their brunch menu or order from an all-day menu of small plates including crispy squid, muhlama and manti (beef with an oak-smoked paprika sauce). Pared-back surrounds mark Barboun out from some of Shoreditch’s more wackily themed eateries.
