Wondering what to do this weekend? SLMan has you covered. From new restaurant openings and pop-ups to a special F1 experience, here’s what to get stuck into…

MEET YOUR MATES: Between The Bridges

London’s biggest beer garden has just opened on the South Bank. From the team behind Clapham’s Winterville and Brockwell Park festivals, Between the Bridges promises regular entertainment from DJs and musicians including live sets of funk, disco and house music. Eat your way around the vendors – including Burger & Beyond, Urban Falafel and The Cheese Wheel – then challenge your mates to a game of mini golf or tejo (a Colombian throwing sport). The garden will also host weekly themed markets where shoppers can scour upcycled, retro and vintage finds. Entry is free, except on Friday and Saturday nights when tickets cost £5.

FIND A MATCH: Qemistry App

If you’re looking for fresh ways to date post-lockdown, Qemistry is the dating app to have on your radar. Rather than swiping through endless pictures, this one’s all about video content: upload pre-recorded videos from your social media profiles (including Insta Snapchat and TikTok) so potential matches can get a feel for your vibe and personality. You can then ‘like’ other people’s profiles, get talking and – if you like what you see – set up a date. Downloads are free.

GET YOUR SWEAT ON: KXU

We’re big fans of KXU at SLMan so we were excited to hear the Chelsea gym, known for its no-nonsense results-driven sessions, has added a series of new spinning classes to its timetable. U-Cycle is an indoor class that guarantees to get the heart rate soaring: held on Keiser bikes, which feel more like a road bike than your average spin bike, you’ll work your way through 24 levels of resistance, incorporating hills and sprints. For something different, book a U-Cycle MTV class where you can spin to music videos played on a cinema-sized screen.

TAKE THE FAMILY: Promise Me Memories Installation

Artist Yinka Ilori unveiled his immersive installation in Greenwich last weekend. Standout elements include a hopscotch area made from reclaimed car tyres and a crazy golf course suitable for the whole family. In the coming weeks, the installation will transform into a stage for ‘Summer Sessions’ with live jazz music and DJ sets, and screenings of Saturday night movies as well as sporting events like Wimbledon and the Olympics. Whatever your bag, the installation will be in situ until Sunday 19th September.

DITCH THE WEEKEND PAPERS FOR: Tales from the Colony Room By Darren Coffield

If you’re in the market for a scandalous, tell-all read, the paperback version of Tales from the Colony Room comes out tomorrow. This is the definitive history of Soho’s most notorious drinking den. It’s a hair-raising romp through the underbelly of the post-war scene: during its 60-year history, more romances, deaths, horrors and sex scandals took place in the Colony than anywhere else. The story’s told through unpublished and long-lost interviews with characters who were central to the scene – expect to hear from Dylan Thomas, Damien Hirst, Lisa Stansfield and more.
