What To Do This Weekend 28.06.23

Wondering what to do over the weekend? SLMan has you covered. From a restaurant reopening to a new store on Bond Street, here’s what to get stuck into…

UPDATE YOUR WARDROBE

Swaine's Flagship Store

Luxury heritage brand Swaine opens its flagship store on New Bond Street tomorrow. The brand was established in the 18th century and has made accessories and travel essentials for royalty for near 300 years – as well as Harrison Ford’s original Indiana Jones hat, wool caps for the Peaky Blinder cast, and various suitcases in the James Bond franchise. The new shop is set over two floors and features a selection of the brand’s leather goods and luggage, as well as Herbert Johnson hats and Brigg umbrellas (both brands of the Swaine family). There are also separate areas for private appointments and bespoke services, plus a museum dedicated to the brand’s history.

KICK BACK IN THE SUN

Allegra

Chef Patrick Powell has been busy opening King’s Cross restaurant The Midland Grand Dining Room. Now Allegra, his restaurant in Stratford, has reopened its outside wraparound terrace and garden for summer, and his more casual offering at Happy Burger is back until the end of August. Diners can start with oysters before moving onto burgers, fried chicken and fries. For something more sophisticated, the tasting menu served indoors features seasonal dishes – current highlights include Cornish pollock crudo with tomato, barbecued mackerel with romesco sauce, and lamb faggots with smoked aubergine.

CATCH A FILM

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

The reviews have been varied, but there’s no denying that Harrison Ford’s last Indiana Jones film – released in cinemas today – is set to be a cinematic talking point. This time, the cast includes Mads Mikkelsen, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Antonio Banderas and Toby Jones. An older Indy is whisked into one last adventure when a Nazi he battled in WW2 seeks a mythical dial which could give him the ability to find fissures in time that could change the outcome of the war…
