What To Do This Weekend 30.11.22

Wondering what to do this weekend? SLMan has you covered. From pop-ups and new openings to a cool virtual reality experience, here’s what to get stuck into…

MEET YOUR MATES

The Bishop at The Berkeley

Keen to branch out from your local boozer? The Berkeley has opened a pop-up pub on its ground floor – the name is a nod to the mitre hat from the hotel’s original logo. Open Wednesdays to Sundays, the pub is divided into a traditional bar on one side with beers on tap, old church pews and bar stools, and a dining room on the other. There’s beer from a Sussex brewery which you can enjoy with the Bishop’s homemade crisps or proper bar snacks like pork scratchings, fried pickles and black pudding croquettes with homemade HP sauce. There are larger pub classics too, like beef burgers, pies, battered fish and chips, chicken kiev, and a slow-braised salt marsh lamb shank with mash. Leave room for sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice-cream, or a decadent molten chocolate stout cake, and look out for pub quiz questions on the swanky beer mats.

David Attenborough’s Conquest of the Skies at Westfield London

David Attenborough’s new virtual reality series Conquest of the Skies is now available on Meta Quest devices. If you haven’t got the VR kit, make your way to Westfield London this weekend for an immersive experience that brings the series to life. Head to The Atrium to watch 3D dinosaurs, hummingbirds and dragonflies interact with one another. Find out how insects, reptiles and birds evolved over time and took to the skies, before watching a special cut of the doc, exclusive to the pop-up.

LET LOOSE

Horse Meat Disco at Caia

Caia is a wine bar, restaurant and music venue just off Portobello Road. It’s got a pretty sweet music set-up in its basement – featuring a Kuzma R record player and Auditorium R-25 A speakers – and it’s just announced its winter lineup of acts set taking to the decks in the coming weeks. On Friday 2nd December, Horse Meat Disco’s Severino will spin disco tunes from 9pm until late. Can’t make it? There’s a special act next Saturday night – details are strictly under wraps but we’re expecting good things.

DRINK LIKE 007

Belvedere Vodka Pop-Up Bar at Selfridges

You’ve probably seen Daniel Craig’s viral campaign for Belvedere Vodka doing the rounds on social media. Now, the brand has opened a pop-up bar in the men’s shoe department on the first floor at Selfridges, where you can drink like 007 himself. Open daily until the end of the December, guests can sit at the slick, minimalist bar to try classic martinis – shaken, not stirred. There’s also the brand’s new signature drink: the ‘Belvedere Clubland Cocktail’ made with vodka, white port, bitters and orange zest – on Mondays, each guest can order one of these for free.
