What 5 SL Husbands Wear To Work

/

Thanks to the pandemic, the way we work has changed over the past year. Many are taking a more relaxed approach, with smart denim, unbuttoned shirts and stylish jackets replacing traditional suiting. Five men (who happen to be the husbands of some of the SheerLuxe team) told us what they now wear to the office – wherever it might be – and unveiled their top picks from MR PORTER…

Christopher Jones, 43

Investment Banker

“The dress code in banking is definitely loosening up. To a meeting or pitch, we’ll wear jackets and sometimes a suit, but very rarely with a tie. Post-lockdown, we're getting back into the office more but meetings are still often remote. A shirt and blazer with jeans and smart trainers works across both physical and virtual meetings.”

Lewis Malpas, 31

Creative Director

“I'm fortunate that working within the creative industry (specifically within the luxury fashion space) the dress code is relaxed and without any hard and fast rules. As a result, the way I dress depends on my mood and the weather, but I have a soft spot for a loopback sweatshirt, which I've paired with a slightly cropped tailored trouser and Nike sneakers, completing the look with a pair of tortoiseshell frames from Garrett Leight.”

Edward Black, 36

LLOYD'S Insurance Broker

"I work at Lloyd's where historically, the market has followed the City tradition of wearing suits, crisp shirts and ties. Since the pandemic hit, priorities have been adjusted. With the majority of trading taking place remotely, it’s a collar for Zoom calls and – at least until the market reopens – casual attire is encouraged in the office.  A simple white shirt, slim jeans and a lightweight jacket for informal meetings and lunches is more than acceptable.”

Matt Sayer, 39

Commercial Director

“I work in the drinks industry which doesn’t follow a set dress code - smart jeans are the most worn trouser ahead of anything tailored. What does matter is a good pair of shoes because they guarantee you’ll be let into any bar, club or Michelin-star restaurant you might be meeting in. This allows me to be a little more adventurous with what I wear on the top half: a good-quality, well-fitting t-shirt and a navy bomber strikes the perfect balance between smart and casual.”

Benjamin Horowitz, 30

Banker

"For the first few years of my career a suit and tie were mandatory, but even before the pandemic dress codes started to relax. I may not have been to the office since March 2020, but when I make my grand return it will be in my signature chinos and shirt combination - I tend to layer with a knit for more casual days, and add loafers for a contemporary touch."
