THE COCKTAIL ENHANCER: Sipsmith Coffee Gin
For the third release in Sipsmith’s limited-edition ‘Sipping Series’, the gin brand has created ‘Sipspresso’, a rich and smooth spiced gin made with coffee. Partnering with Pact Coffee, the Sipsmith team has distilled the finest Brazilian and Rwandan ground coffee beans, alongside cinnamon and vanilla for a full-bodied flavour. Naturally, the spirit is designed for the brand’s signature Sipspresso Martini – a cool twist on the espresso martini.
THE ROAST: Mr Ji
Taiwanese-inspired Mr Ji is hosting a monthly series of ticketed Sunday roasts for the winter season. On the first Sundays of October, November and December, Ana and Meng of Tātā Eatery will be taking inspiration from siu mei (Cantonese-style roasted meats) to put their own spin on a roast. They’ll be serving up a feast of four meats – roast duck, crispy roast pork belly, Taiwanese sausage and soy poached chicken – accompanied by unlimited lettuce cups, shiso, umami dips, sweet mustard, garlic mayo, pickles and rice with salted duck egg.
THE SUBSCRIPTION: Jamaican Jazz Series
Mercury Award-nominated contemporary jazz icon Moses Boyd has teamed up with Appleton Estate alongside The Bottle Club to create the Jamaican Jazz Series. This limited-edition subscription service celebrates Jamaica’s influence on modern British jazz. Other artists in the series includes musician, producer and multi-instrumentalist Cktrl; tuba player and bandleader Theon Cross; and London jazz singer Demae. Each artist has chosen a record of their own (signed) and one from Jamaica that has inspired them. The £30 monthly subscription box also includes a 20cl bottle of Appleton Estate premium rum, plus a Jamaican-inspired pre-batched cocktail matched to the music.
THE VODKA: X Muse
We’re very excited about this blended barley vodka from Scotland. X Muse – pronounced ‘tenth muse’ – has been created from two heritage barley varieties blended to create a smooth and complex flavour. The water used to create the vodka is from a one-off water source just outside of Edinburgh in the grounds of Jupiter Artland sculpture park – the well-designed bottle is a nod to this arty backdrop. The vodka is designed to be sipped and savoured straight, on the rocks or as a starting point for both classic and creative cocktails.
THE COOKBOOK: Around The Table
Food website Great British Chefs has published Around The Table, a cookbook for impressing friends and family with dishes designed by some of the most exciting chefs from across the UK. With recipes for everything from dinner parties to picnics, Around The Table features 70 fully illustrated recipes from 16 incredible cooks including Kol chef-owner Santiago Lastra; Great British Menu finalists Kerth Gumbs and Roberta Hall-McCarron; executive chef at Barrafina, Angel Zapata Martin; and Michelin-starred chef Shaun Hill.
THE BAR: Sakaya at Pantechnicon
Within Pantechnicon, a London centre of Nordic and Japanese design, you’ll now find Sakaya. This boutique bottle shop offers a selection of Japanese barware, spirits, beers, whiskies, sakes and liqueurs such as umeshu, shochu and yuzushu. Inside, tailored tasting experiences are available, held at the four-seater bar or in a private tasting room by appointment only, offering small groups the chance to sample individual whisky and sake flights with the restaurant’s ‘sake samurai’ Natsuki Kikuya.
THE SUPERMARKET FIND: Pizza Pilgrims Pizza Kits For Two, £14.50
Pizza Pilgrims’s frying-pan pizzas were a lockdown success story – so much so the at-home pizza kits are now available to buy from Ocado. Pizza fans can choose between two classics: the margherita (£14.50) with Italian tomatoes, Neapolitan fior di latte mozzarella and a sprinkle of Italian matured hard cheese; and the Double Pepperoni & Spicy Honey (£17.50), featuring traditionally cured Hungarian pepperoni and a drizzle of spicy honey.
THE BEER COLLAB: Marmite x Camden Town Brewery
Camden Town Brewery has created one of the – potentially – most divisive beers out there. The beer brand has teamed up with Marmite to manufacture a limited-edition beer that with a real punch. The team-up isn’t as radical as you might think: Marmite is a by-product of the beer brewing process, with most of the beer yeast produced in the UK going on to produce the spread. The brewery combines the pilsner, Munich hops, smoked Rauch malt and Perle hops used in its classic Hells Lager, before adding Marmite – resulting in a smoky, Marmite-infused ale. We’re lovers not haters.
THE LUXE READY MEAL: Farmison & Co Saucepan Ready
Online butcher Farmison & Co has launched a range of nine delicious ready-to-heat sauces, developed by Michelin-trained chef Jeff Baker. Each comes with plenty of serving suggestions, can be assembled in minutes and are designed to be eaten with a simple accompaniment such as focaccia, naan bread or a baked potato. The sauces – which include beef ragu, Italian meatballs and lam madras – are available for next-day delivery and can be heated straight away or frozen.
