BEST FOR ITALIAN SUPPERS: Pasta Evangelists
Every week, Pasta Evangelists releases a new menu of ten dishes, each one bringing a taste of Italy into British homes. Delivered to your doorstep, each box includes fresh handmade pasta, an authentic Italian sauce, garnishes and instructions on how to prepare the dish in minutes. Choose from popular dishes such as wild boar and red wine ragu; wild mushroom ravioli; and cacio e pepe. Responding to Covid-19, the team has organised a special care package developed in partnership with Age UK. Order it for yourself – or for a loved one who needs it to make mealtimes easier – and £5 from each package sold will be donated to Age UK.
BEST FOR FARM-TO-FORK PRODUCE: The Gladwin Brothers
The Gladwin boys usually spend their time running Sussex in Soho, The Shed in Notting Hill, Rabbit in Chelsea and Nutbourne in Battersea. For lockdown, they’ve opened an online store to help Londoners create farm-fresh meals at home. The shop is filled with treats from the family's farm and vineyard in Sussex: think English wine, organic hand-reared pork and various family roasting boxes, designed for households of different sizes. It’s rich pickings all round, but the beef wellington and Sussex beef pie are particularly outstanding – and both ready to serve two-four people.
BEST FOR FOOD & DRINK: Mac & Wild
Mac & Wild is delivering both hearty Scottish dishes and pre-bottled cocktails during lockdown. Fine Scottish meat reared on independent, family-run farms in the Highlands is available for home delivery, alongside the kitchen’s homemade venison haggis. An array of pre-mixed bottled cocktails includes the ‘Blackwatch Espresso Martini’ – made with Talisker 10 and coffee beans from Edinburgh Roastery, Artisan Roast’s and Janszoon – and the ‘Bonnie Spritz’, with Haig Clubman whisky infused with rowan berries, lime, Rosato vermouth, rhubarb, Peychaud’s bitters and a touch of agave.
BEST FOR A BBQ FIX: Coal Rooms
Coal Rooms in Peckham has launched takeaway Sunday roasts. Available to pick up – or deliver within a three-mile radius – options include 40-day aged belted Galloway rumps, whole Cotswold chicken and Welsh lamb saddle, all served with beef dripping, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, leeks and Yorkshire puddings. Through the week, the team is operating Fat Boy BBQ on Deliveroo. Serving up American-style BBQ food from Thursday to Saturday (5pm-10pm), the menu features the likes of short rib with Korean BBQ glaze and red chilli pickles; pork belly rib with pineapple and cider BBQ glaze and cucumber pickles; and deep-fried chicken wings with jerk BBQ glaze. Alternatively, customers can order a combo box for £35 made up of two ‘Peckham In & Out’ burgers, a portion of wings, a side and sauce.
