Wide Boy Trousers

£295 | SCOTT FRASER COLLECTION

Who says linen pants have to make you look like a cult leader? Scott Fraser makes trousers to order at a price not too far off preeminent off-the-rack options. And his linen? So damn good. The Irish linen is beefy but breathable, and looks especially cool in Jet Black. I personally recommend the Wide Boy model, although you can find something slimmer or even shorts if you prefer. (Pro tip: ask for a second back pocket – the default styles only come with one.)

2M15C Cropped Vintage Machine Refined Classic Fit T-Shirt

€64,80 | Merz B. Schwanen

Blah blah blah, the t-shirt from The Bear, blah blah. The media frenzy around the shirt that Carmy wore in The Bear was grating and largely uninformed. As a seasoned retail worker, I was intimately familiar with the particular loop-wheeled t-shirt from that show, but knew it wasn’t going to fit people the way they wanted. But now, Merz B. Schwanen has released an updated cut: cropped and not looped. I think this new version is a superior fit and will give the average guy a much more Carmy-esque fit.

Slim Albert Belt

£111 | Maximum Henry

I started collaborating with Brooklyn-based belt maker Maximum Henry several years ago. Our first iteration was a wide belt with a garrison-style buckle that works great with the heavy workwear pants of winter, but for summer we designed a slim version. I really think it’s the only belt you need. Slim enough to fit into vintage trouser loops, and with a mini-garrison buckle, it’s just perfection.

The Bloedstone Franco Chain

From $950 | Bloedstone

I wasn’t a gold guy until I got this chain from Bloedstone. Now, in the two years I’ve had it, I’ve scarcely taken it off. If the price of gold intimidates you, the sterling-silver offerings are just as good. It’s very hard to find elegant and vintage-inspired men’s jewellery, so I shop pretty much exclusively with Bloedstone. (Its rings are sick too.)

Sandy Shorts

£88 | Pali Swim

It’s so hard to find good swim trunks. The only ones I really like wearing are these from Pali Swim. If you work out, I find that most trunks brands are too slim in the thigh. These, however, are roomy, just short enough, and well made.

A Certain Someone - Eau De Parfum

$90 | Bare Knuckles

I’m picky when it comes to fragrance, but Bare Knuckles do everything well, so I figured theirs was bound to please. It’s the kind of thing that people comment on immediately upon meeting you – it gets that compulsive ‘you smell so good’ every time. What more can you ask from a fragrance?

Tank Louis Watch

£11,000 | Cartier

I’m late to the party with this one. A long-time Cartier hater (I couldn’t stand the idea of paying that much for a quartz movement), I was eventually charmed by the mechanical vintage iterations. I’ve traditionally been a functional tool watch guy, but when you put one of these on, you understand the hype. They are so beautiful, and tremendously subtle, especially in a small size on a leather strap. I got mine (as with all my vintage watches) from Craft & Tailored in downtown LA.

'Beefy' Cotton Oxford Shirt

£159 | Knickerbocker

I’ve owned many striped oxfords in my life, but there’s something special about this one. Maybe it’s because I’ve been a fan of Andrew Livingston’s brand since I was in college, or maybe it’s because I got to visit the beautiful factory in Portugal where it’s made. It’s crisp, with a subtle monogrammed logo barely visible below the pocket, and fits great untucked. Pretty damn perfect.

Cancun Huarache Shoes

£143 | Chamula

I’m not one for showing everyone my toes, but I do need some air circulation when the weather heats up. This particular huarache from Chamula has been my go-to for several summers running. The weave mainly covers your foot, while still letting your dogs breathe. Wear ’em to the beach or dress ’em up with trousers when you go out to dinner. There’s nothing they can’t do.

Shorts

£202, Polo Ralph Lauren

Every year, the menswear folks are at each other’s throats about what the correct inseam is, but you don’t have to let them drag you down. Vintage Polo Ralph Lauren shorts are always the move. They tend to measure in with a six to nine-inch inseam, but you can hem ’em, cuff ’em or wear them as long as you want. The made-in-USA styles are especially great, but they’ve been making these for years in every conceivable style, colour and fabric. If you’re looking online, just remember they’re probably fitting a bit smaller than their original tag size. Happy hunting!
