SSAW Collective and Newcomer Wines are collaborating to create an al fresco dining experience for spring. Championing ethical producers and regenerative farms in the UK, the menu will celebrate simple and fresh ingredients, served in the beautiful setting of Newcomer Wines’ garden in Dalston. The residency will showcase a new set menu each week, with dishes including pickled mussels and coriander on toast; barbecued asparagus with nettle butter sauce; English mozzarella with braised greens and dill; barbecued hogget and green sauce; little gems with radishes, dill and bread salad; and Jersey royals with wild garlic butter. Diners can also enjoy a selection of organic and natural wines. Running Thursdays to Saturdays until the end of June, tickets cost £50 per head.

MEET YOUR MATES: Skylight Canalside x KERB
On Saturday 1st May, Skylight opens a rooftop pop-up in collaboration with the street food masters Kerb. Taking over the Quayside area at Tobacco Dock, it’s a rotating offering, with two new Kerb food trucks parking up each month – up first, it’s Fundi Pizza and Tongue N Cheek with options for both meat eaters and vegans. Skylight will be on hand with an extensive drink selection, including craft beer and ales, plus pitchers of cocktails. Put your order in, then enjoy the garden games on offer. If you fancy it, tables are expected to go quickly.

LEARN SOMETHING NEW: The London Library’s Literature Fest
From Saturday 1st to Sunday 2nd May, the London Library will host its annual literature festival. Taking place online for the second year in a row, guest speakers at the 180th anniversary celebration include Salman Rushdie, Tom Stoppard, Polly Samson, Philippe Sands, Monique Roffey, C Pam Zhang and Edmund de Waal. Don’t miss Rebecca West’s performance of Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own and a discussion about underrepresented voices led by Bidisha and Virago founder Lennie Goodings. Tickets to individual events cost £5 and weekend passes are £25.
CHILL WITH NETFLIX: Concrete Cowboy
If you’re yet to catch Netflix’s Concrete Cowboy, add it to your watch list this weekend. While spending the summer in North Philadelphia, troubled teen Cole (Caleb McLaughlin) is caught between a life of crime and his estranged father’s urban-cowboy subculture. With an all-Black cast that includes Idris Elba, Jharrel Jerome and Lorraine Toussaint, the film is based on Greg Neri’s brilliant novel Ghetto Cowboy.
