Bar Blondie’s Guide To Queen’s Park

Bar Blondie is the spaghetti western-inspired wine bar at the centre of the action in Queen’s Park. Its co-founder Elliot Milne is the ideal person to round up some recommendations for this talked-about part of town…

EAT

Carmel

Go here for fantastic Middle Eastern cuisine by Josh Katz. It’s become a defining neighbourhood restaurant through its fire-led cooking, excellent flatbreads and serious low-intervention wine list.

Don’t Tell Dad

A phenomenal bakery adds so much to an area. This one brings energy from the early hours, delivering such a treat of good bread, pastries and coffee. Even better, the place is also a vibey French-inspired restaurant by night.

Ida

This place is like walking into Nonna’s living room with its family portraits and Italian prints covering the walls. It’s a family-run Italian, making it the perfect neighbourhood spot with great food and always a warm vibe.

DRINK

Bar Blondie

My co-founder Alexandra Price just placed 19th on a list of the 50 best sommeliers in the UK. Her wine list is so creative and intriguing, bridging the gap between classic old-world estates and new-wave independent winemakers. The place is designed as a cosy mid-century artist’s living room with country and western influences, and vinyl playing classics, folk and soul. Our food menu takes inspiration from the ingredient-led cooking of southern France and Italy. With tables spilling out onto Lonsdale Road mews, it doesn’t feel like you’re in central London.

Wolfpack

The brewery on Lonsdale Road, started by ex-South African rugby player Alistair Hargreaves, is the place to go for a beer. It’s always full of locals, and whenever the sun’s out there’s about 200 people drinking on the street outside.

Cable Co.

My favourite coffee in the area. Brilliant coffee, and always with a friendly chat. It reminds me of how coffee is done well back home in Sydney.

WHAT TO DO

Lonsdale Road and Street Party

The beating heart of Queen’s Park is full of creative businesses, restaurants and bars, as well as indoor golf and a fruit shack. No matter the day or time, you can always head to Lonsdale Road for something to do. In July every year, there is a huge street party with live music, outdoor bars and great vibes. The whole neighbourhood turns out and it’s a really special night.

Farmers Market

Every Sunday, Salusbury Primary School is taken over by farmers selling fresh produce. It’s a neighbourhood meeting spot and an easy way to get access to the best British produce for the week ahead.

The Park

Bang in the middle of the neighbourhood, it’s a great place to go for a stroll or lie in the sun. There are beautiful open spaces, a manicured garden with exotic plants, six tennis courts and even a pitch-and-putt golf course.

Queen’s Park Book Shop

A well-curated and independent bookstore is a must for any great neighbourhood and Queen’s Park Book Shop is just perfect. It’s always worth stopping in.
