THE DESTINATION TO WATCH
Baja Peninsula, Mexico
According to Google Flights, searches for trips to Mexico are through the roof. We’d skip Cancun and head straight to the Baja Peninsula, where some of the world’s best hotel brands are putting down roots. The Baja Peninsula is a wild and rugged strip of land between the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez with deserts, mile-long beaches and clear waters with vibrant marine ecosystems. Ultra-luxe hotel group Aman will open Amanvari here later in the year (a property to rival Utah’s Amangiri), while Chablé Hotels is readying the Chablé Sea of Cortez. Down in Los Cabos at the tip of the peninsula, Four Seasons and Park Hyatt will open five-star resorts this summer.
THE JAPANESE OPENING
Rosewood Miyakojima
Rosewood Miyakojima will be the luxury brand’s first property in Japan, bringing its five-star service to Okinawa’s remote Ryukyu Islands. Opening in March, the hotel will be surrounded by sugarcane fields and overlook Oura Bay. It will have 55 rooms with watery views, as well as four restaurants, an infinity pool, an Asaya Spa, and a range of immersive cultural experiences on offer, from snorkelling to calligraphy sessions with local artists. There are daily direct flights from Tokyo to Okinawa's main island, so reaching the hotel is simpler than you might think.

THE LUXE CHALET
Arolay Penthouse, Val d’Isère
Ski season is in full swing, but there’s still plenty of time to book a family or group trip to the Alps. Bramble Ski has recently added several newly renovated chalets to its portfolio. The most impressive is Arolay Penthouse. Perched at 1,930m in the Le Fornet area of Val-d’Isère, it guarantees some of the best snow the Alps has to offer. The four-bed apartment has a double-height living area with panoramic mountain views. Sleeping eight guests, there are spacious en-suite bedrooms, a wood-burning fireplace and a south-facing roof terrace. There’s also a ski room with heated boot warmers and plenty of space to store equipment. Best of all, the duplex has a private lift with access to Val-d’Isère’s 300km of pistes.

THE BUCKET LIST FAMILY TRIP
Sri Lanka
For a relatively small island, Sri Lanka has it all – lush rainforest, ancient temples, friendly locals and mile-long beaches home to some of the best surfing spots on the planet. It’s slowly but surely recovering from economic instability, with the government investing heavily in sustainable tourism initiatives. Luxury villa specialist Oliver’s Travels recently expanded its Sri Lanka portfolio with 34 new villas. For a special group or family holiday, Tiree Tea House is a design-led villa on Sri Lanka's southern coast that sleeps 14. It has epic sea views, a koi pond and an outdoor pool. Then there’s Sanctuary Pavilion near Galle Fort, home to five bedrooms, a 70ft pool and spacious living areas. Each one in the collection has been handpicked by the team’s travel experts and comes with access to its concierge service which can sort out all the extras for a memorable trip.
