What To Do This Weekend 27.02.20

/

Defy the weather and make the final weekend in February one to remember. From the opening of a new art exhibition to the debut of a French Sunday roast, here are the best things to do this weekend…

SEE THE DRAWINGS OF A GREAT BRITISH ARTIST: David Hockney: Drawing From Life

The first dedicated exhibition to David Hockney’s drawings for over 20 years opens at the National Portrait Gallery this week. Presenting 150 items from private and public collections worldwide, covering six decades of work, David Hockney: Drawing from Life zooms in on the artist’s famous self-depictions and observations of those around him. This is one of the final exhibitions at the National Portrait Gallery before it closes this summer for a three-year refurbishment.

WATCH A THRILLER: Dark Waters

This film is an intense legal thriller, starring Mark Ruffalo (Foxcatcher, Spotlight) as Robert Bilott, a corporate defence attorney battling chemical giant Dupont, which is responsible for polluting West Virginia’s water supply. A classic little-guy-versus-the-big-guys plot line plays out over a decade-long court battle. The main focus of director Todd Haynes (Carol) is the negligence of Dupont, as he shows how powerful companies can lose their sense of shame in the pursuit of profit. Also starring Anne Hathaway, Bill Pullman and Tim Robbins, this is a gripping exposé of corporate misdeeds.
