Gleneagles: Stories From The Glorious Playground

Quintessential Scottish resort Gleneagles has teamed up with publisher Rizzoli to celebrate its 100th birthday. When the hotel first opened in 1924 it was dubbed the ‘Riviera of the Highlands’ and quickly claimed its place among the greatest leisure destinations in the world – and its golfing, falconry and shooting itineraries are still prized today. Featuring a foreword by HRH The Princess Royal, this slip-cased volume delves into the Gleneagles archives through high times and wartime, exploring its endurance and looking towards its future. Gleneagles: Stories from the Glorious Playground is published on 8th May.

Already one of the capital’s best Mexican restaurants, Kol just got better. Its basement mezcaleria has launched six house mezcals and distillates of agave. Working in collaboration with the Sin Gusano project in Mexico, these mezcals hail from the San Luis Potosi, Oaxaca, Puebla and Jalisco regions. They will be incorporated into the bar’s cocktail menu and mezcal flight options, as well as the restaurant’s mezcal pairing. The Look

Tenniswear

This weekend sees the launch of Challengers, the newest film from Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino. It features Zendaya, Josh O’Connor and Mike Faist, but one of the biggest stars of the film is the crisp, white on-court outfits – to get the look, look to brands such as Vuori, Superga and Percival, plus vintage Lacoste, Slazenger and Wilson. But first, make like us and book a ticket to the cinema.

The Grooming Launch

Hunter Lab

Hunter Lab is an Aussie natural skincare brand that’s landed in the UK. Synthetic and chemical ingredients can cause skin sensitivities, so Hunter Lab’s skincare suite is formulated naturally and transparently. Our pick is the Cleansing Facial Scrub, a natural two-in-one foaming exfoliant made with invigorating native macrobiotic sea minerals and passionflower, violet leaf and bladderwrack extracts to soothe, remove dead skin and stimulate cell renewal. Natural olive stone and bamboo powder shed dead surface skin, and clear dirt and excesses without removing vital moisture or irritating sensitive skin.

The Restaurant

Chez Roux

On 22nd May, Michel Roux Jr will open Chez Roux, a new restaurant in Palm Court at The Langham. If you never made it to Le Gavroche – or you miss it immensely – this is your chance to sample the chef’s food once more. The restaurant has been inspired by Michel’s childhood memories: life in rural Kent in the 1960s, being raised at the Fairlawne estate where his father Albert worked as a private chef for the Cazalet family; and the first menus from Le Gavroche in 1967. Guests can look forward to Roux’s take on Welsh rarebit, rich with stout, Montgomery cheddar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce and pickled walnut. There’s also ‘lamb chops reform’, inspired by Alexis Soyer’s classic 1830s recipe, and grilled lobster with garlic butter, fries and béarnaise – one of Michel’s all-time favourite dishes, and something remembers enjoying at Le Gavroche as a child.

The Hotel

Dunas De Formentera

When it opens in mid-May, Dunas de Formentera will be a secluded hideout on the laid-back island of Formentera, the smallest of Spain’s Balearics. Among the sand dunes of Mijorn beach, the hotel’s low-key, chic interiors have been designed by the Palma-based studio Antonio Obrador, whose work graces other hotels in the Marugal portfolio, including Cap Rocat in Mallorca. The large rooms and suites – some in the main building, some in private bungalows – are all connected by pathways and boardwalks through the dunes. They have been designed with friends and family in mind – some are large enough to add kids’ beds. Inside, expect a sandy and off-white colour palette with plenty of terracotta, wood and ceramic latticing.
