What To Do This Weekend 23.10.24
Try A New Spot
Blood Orange Bar
Cubitt House – which looks after good London boozers such as The Princess Royal in Notting Hill and The Barley Mow in Mayfair – recently revamped The Orange on Pimlico Road. This upgrade included four bedrooms and an upscale dining area with a menu to match. Now, the spot has another string to its bow: the Blood Orange bar. Hidden in the basement, it’s the Orange’s cooler sister. It’s got cocktails, craft beers and a relaxed food menu featuring wood-fired pizzas. The live music and vinyl-spinning DJs create a lively atmosphere, while its Vault provides a private space for a more intimate night out.

The Curling Club
The next Winter Olympics isn’t until 2026 in Milan, so there’s still time to earn your place on Team GB. Or maybe the Curling Club will be a salutary lesson in how difficult the sport really is. There’s only one way to find out. Its first pop-up rink has already returned to Southbank for the winter season, with a new Vinegar Yard spot opening on 1st November. While there won’t be real ice in the pop-ups, there will be a chance to try the sport alongside a selection of seasonal and alpine food, and plenty of drinks to warm you up.
Southbank: Under Hungerford Bridge, Belvedere Road, Waterloo, SE1 8XX; Vinegar Yard: 72-82 St Thomas Street, London Bridge, SE1 3QX; until February 2025

Stanley Tucci X Artesian
Since he started knocking out negronis on Instagram during lockdown, Stanley Tucci has gone from beloved actor to foodie arbiter. Now, he’s bringing his cocktail expertise to a residency at the Artesian in The Langham Hotel. Stanley has teamed up with Tanqueray No. TEN and Artesian’s head bartender, Giulia Cuccurullo, to curate a cocktail menu and events programme. Highlights include their takes on the gimlet and the French 75, each paired with bespoke canapés like seared tuna with hoisin sauce, caviar blinis topped with compressed cucumber, pear caviar and lemon balm, as well as whipped ricotta with sundried tomato and marinated fig. Tonight, the celebrations continue with an exclusive Gin & Jazz night. It will be an intimate evening soundtracked with live performances by breakthrough jazz instrumentalist CKTRL.

Bar Brutal X Midland
Good food and music pair well, it turns out – especially when hosted at Tate Modern’s cool Corner Bar. The next instalment in the PAIRED dining series sees Biodynamic wine disruptors Bar Brutal join forces with DJ, producer and record label owner Midland for a special takeover. Bar Brutal will be applying its knowledge from its eponymous tapas and wine joint in Barcelona to create a Catalan-inspired set menu, while Midland will be soundtracking the evening – and after party – with his funky, deep house-y tunes. Tickets start at £125.
The Corner, Tate Modern, Bankside, London, SE1 9TG; 26th October
