To fill the void left by the cancelled event, the BBC has launched The Glastonbury Experience, a celebratory run of special programming taking place over what would have been the festival weekend. Tune in from Thursday to enjoy some of the best performances from previous years, as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes footage and interviews.

STREAM A NEW BLOCKBUSTER: IRRESISTIBLE

This political comedy stars Steve Carell, Chris Cooper and Rose Byrne. Carell is Gary Zimmer, a Democratic strategist who makes it his mission to help retired Marine colonel Jack Hastings (Cooper) win the local mayoral election in his small, right-wing hometown. Originally set to be released in cinemas, the film is available to stream from Friday.

The City’s Indian BBQ restaurant Brigadiers has opened a retro off-licence to supply customers with everything they might need to get through lockdown. Served through a handy hatch, you can order takeaway pints and wine pouches as well as canned beer and frozen slushie-style cocktails, while tucking into a Naanza, the restaurant’s recently launched pizza/naan bread hybrid. Open Wednesday to Friday from 1pm to 7pm.

TAP INTO AN ONLINE FILM FESTIVAL: EDINBURGH FILM FESTIVAL

Edinburgh Film Festival was due to take place this week, but has of course been postponed. To keep its spirit alive, the team are running ‘Ed Film Fest At Home’, created in partnership with Curzon Home Cinema. Live as of yesterday, and running until 5th July, the virtual festival features a curated collection of some of the best up-and-coming indie movies of the year, as well as Q&As with directors and cast members.

GET LOST IN A NOVEL: THE FALL OF GONDOLIN BY JRR TOLKIEN

The paperback version of The Fall Of Gondolin is out today. Restored from Tolkein’s own manuscripts, it takes Lord Of The Rings fans back to Middle Earth for the story – from its birth to downfall –  of Gondolin, a secret city of elves. Part of The Book Of Lost Tales but released as a standalone novel, this is an epic fantasy-adventure in its own right.
