In the last couple of years, oversized totes, holdalls and weekend bags have become a common sight on menswear runways. Some of those catwalk versions lean theatrical, but behind them all is a wider interest in the everyday practicality of a big bag.

Men are looking for bags that work for the office, are refined enough to take to dinner, and roomy enough to handle a spontaneous weekend away. Rather than carrying a backpack, gym bag and briefcase for different parts of the day, a carry-all does the job of all three.

From the runway to the pavement, the big bag is now part of the menswear vernacular. Jacob Elordi, A$AP Rocky, Harry Styles and Harris Dickinson are some of the men making oversized totes and holdalls look like routine choices rather than statement accessories.

At the luxury end, labels like Lemaire, Dries Van Noten and Tom Ford have confirmed the trend with oversized suede and leather totes. Aaron Levine included an oversized everyday bag in his recent Zara collaboration, bringing the refined carry-all to the high street, while Alex Mill has become known for its garment-washed canvas totes in various sizes and colours. The message is now clear: bigger is better, and the carry-all is here to stay.
