THE HOME HELP

Gymkhana Fine Foods

Whether you’re partial to a butter masala or a rogan josh, Michelin-starred Gymkhana’s famous cooking sauces, marinades and chutneys can all be bought from its online shop and Ocado. These Indian pantry staples – which include moreish peanut and sesame chutney, butter masala and vindaloo – have allowed fans to recreate Gymkhana’s legendary dishes at home in a few simple steps. While these have been in our regular kitchen rotation for a while (especially the Goan curry sauce, which – paired with peppers and salmon – is the easiest dinner), some new BBQ boxes have grabbed our attention. The Chef’s Collection includes everything for a killer BBQ: a tandoori spatchcock chicken, four chicken tikka thighs, two tandoori lamb chops, four lasooni wild tiger prawns, one sharing hariyali paneer tikka, two garlic naans and a side of its moreish green chutney. It certainly beats burnt bangers.

MATTY TREAD

THE GRILL

Gozney Matty Tread

Pioneering pizza oven brand Gozney has teamed up with The Bear’s Matty Matheson to create his own Signature Tread. The BBQ – in an eye-catching orange – showcases Matheson’s personality with an illustrated scene of a nostalgic cartoon world, drawn by Matty's longtime artist Christopher Wilson, engraved onto the exterior of the oven’s durable stainless steel. The limited-edition oven retains the same portable, rugged and lightweight features found in the original Gozney Tread oven, which launched in early 2025 and has already been awarded an iF Good Design award. The oven can reach 500°C in 15 minutes, unlocking restaurant-quality pizza thanks to Gozney’s lateral gas burner, which replicates a traditional wood-fired rolling flame for even and consistent heat distribution.

THE WINE

Scott’s Mayfair

Scott’s Mayfair has launched its first own-label wine: a Scott’s Chablis with three expressions. Available exclusively at the London restaurant, and produced in partnership with Château du Val de Mercy, every detail – from the vineyard selection to the cuvee and pouring temperature – has been chosen to reflect Scott’s precision of service. The wines combine structure, freshness and a distinctive mineral backbone that mirrors the balance and elegance of Scott’s seafood-focused menu. We like the sound of the Chablis 2023 at £22 a glass – a benchmark Chablis with layers of green apple, stone fruit and a distinctive saline finish.

THE DELIVERY

Secret Smokehouse

From humble beginnings smoking fish in his Stepney back garden, Max Bergius has grown Secret Smokehouse into the UK’s first B Corp-certified smokehouse. Ten years in, he supplies some of the nation’s finest kitchens, like the Ritzthe Devonshire and Core by Clare Smyth. Everything is traditionally oak-smoked and hand-prepared on site under an arch in London Fields, and everything is available to order through the post – look for oak-smoked trout, mussels, kippers and salmon, plus its bestselling fish pâtés. We can’t get enough of the Zesty Hot Smoked Salmon Pâté, which we’ve taken to slathering over hot buttered toast for a simple lunch.

THE CREW

Gorka

Gorka is the new cooking crew to know. Started by chefs George Husband and George Brown, it’s a roaming dining project named after the Basque word for ‘George’. The founding duo draw on years of experience from kitchens like Chez Bruce, Brat and Café Cecilia to create bold menus rooted in classical technique and global grilling traditions. From robatayaki to open-fire Nordic methods, Gorka’s food is flavour-led and unbound by geography, and has already earned the attention of culinary heavyweights including Fergus Henderson and Jackson Boxer. Fresh from residencies at Carousel and Charlie Boxer’s Italo in Vauxhall, the next places to catch their cooking are the Camberwell Arms on 3rd July and Meatopia on 28th-31st August.

THE TABLE

One Club Row

If there’s one restaurant that got everybody talking this season, it’s One Club Row from chef Patrick Powell, James Dye and Benjy Leibowitz. Sitting above the trio’s recently opened pub, The Knave of Clubs, the hotspot is a tribute to the best of New York hospitality. Drawing on the decade Benjy spent working in NYC, it’s a restaurant for long lunches, late dinners and – according to the team – “dining at the bar, people watching and one too many martinis”. Sitting up at the bar, next to Off Menu’s Ed Gamble, we fought over plates of pickled jalapeno gougères, and lobster and country ham croquettes, freshened things up with tuna crudo and smoked aubergine, before splitting its excellent cheeseburger, which comes with a silver jug of peppercorn sauce for dipping, and a genuinely life-changing rice pudding crème brûlée. The martinis were good (you know they will be when a bar divides its menus into ‘Martinis’ and ‘Not Martinis’). After kicking things off with a two-sip olive-oil martini on the house as we perused the menu, we spent the rest of the evening on its signature version, finished with a bright pink cherry.

THE SUMMER SIPPER

Bero Double Tasty

This month sees Bero, Tom Holland’s non-alcoholic beer range, launch a new flavour. A bold West Coast-style IPA, Double Tasty marks the first new addition since Bero’s launch in October with its original trio of Pilsner, Hazy IPA and Wheat beers. Double Tasty is brewed with three standout hops – Mosaic, El Dorado, and Cascade – sourced from the western US, and offers notes of citrus and pine with a crisp, clean finish. Perfect for throwing into your Yeti cooler at your next BBQ.

THE BURGER

Dumbo

London doesn’t need another burger joint, but we sure are glad it’s got this one. Parisian hotspot Dumbo has come all the way to Shoreditch and it’s well worth going to meet it there. This is the team’s first foray outside France, where Dumbo is famed for its picture-perfect (almost cartoonish, in fact) smashburgers, proper French fries and chicken nuggets, complete with sweet-and-sour dip. At its new east London outpost, the perfectly crisped patties are made using high-quality, responsibly sourced meat from HG Walter, the butcher that supplies the River Café and Brat. The shop’s muted white palette and clean tones provide a neutral backdrop for the crisp lines of brushed stainless steel that define the open kitchen, from where the cook line flip patties as they greet you. Trust us, you need to add this to your summer eating list.

THE RESTAURANT

Lupa

Lupa is a new Roman-inspired neighbourhood restaurant from Carousel’s Ed Templeton and actor Theo James (The White Lotus and The Gentlemen). Up in Highbury, Lupa’s head chef Naz Hassan is serving crowd-pleasing classics, alongside seasonal dishes that nod to the specialities of the Eternal City. Menu highlights include fiori di zucca, carbonara, bucatini all’amatriciana, slow-roasted porchetta and the all-important tiramisù. The vibe is laidback: low lighting, packed-in tables, comfortable seats, upbeat music that stays secondary to the chatter of the evening’s guests, and unhurried service. All things we like.

THE MAG

Sausage Press

Following hit print editions on natural wine, sandwiches and the full english, Sausage Press is back. This time it’s celebrating the drink of the moment: the martini. Printed in its signature fold-out format, this pocket-sized guide unfolds into a beautifully photographed tour of London’s finest martinis. From iconic institutions to boundary-pushing bars, it features old-school classics, east London twists, mighty mini martinis and everything in between. Thirsty? There are a handful of collabs to celebrate the launch. A trio of mini martinis – Bebe Lyan, Dirty and Gibson – are being poured at Bebe Bob for £20, and come with a rosti trio topped with caviar, roe and beef tartare. A limited-edition tinned martini cocktail made by one of our favourite bars, The Umbrella Workshop, has dropped on Delli, and there will also be martini masterclasses hosted at Seed Library on 25th June and at The Umbrella Workshop on 28th June.

THE BBQ ESSENTIALS

Le Creuset

This summer sees Le Creuset step into the al fresco cooking space with the launch of its BBQ Outdoor Collection. Able to endure heats of 450ºC, the new range of enamelled cast iron cookware is designed for use over an open flame. The Round Skillet is an all-rounder, ideal for searing steak and frying eggs, while the Round Pizza Pan can cook large pizzas while providing the necessary heat distribution for a crispy crust. Tools include a slotted turner, two-pronged fork and tongs, all in rust-resistant stainless steel. Plus, for those taking their kit on the road, all products are nestable for simple storage and – crucially – easy to wash.

THE RETURN

Singburi

Shoreditch’s restaurant scene has never been better – and the arrival of much-missed Leytonstone stalwart Singburi this month confirms it. Run by a trio of friends and long-time collaborators, the Thai hotspot has been reimagined for Shoreditch High Street. Industrial accents, terrazzo flooring and a central open kitchen with 19 counter seats anchor the room, where diners can settle in for a front-row view of live-fire cooking. The menu echoes the blackboard specials at Leytonstone: expect the likes of dill and lemongrass pork sausage; wild ginger chicken thigh; mussels, tomato and sweet basil; and smoked pork belly and green peppercorn. Like the original site, there will be no desserts – and its BYOB policy will remain (alongside a decent wine list).
