Behind The Scenes At SLMan’s Autumn Dinner
If ever you find yourself organising a dinner, know that there are actually only two things you need to get right. Nail the venue and the food will be taken care of for you. Choose the guests carefully and the conversation will look after itself. We learnt this the easy way at our latest dinner for friends and contributors…
The Venue
Celeste in Notting Hill is the newest member of the group that includes Mayfair’s Maison Estelle and Oxfordshire’s Estelle Manor. Like those two, it’s a private members club – this one featuring a Japanese-inspired listening bar and an izakaya – but its ground-floor Italian-American restaurant is open to everyone. That’s where we hosted the SLMan dinner, in a lacquered-wood private dining room.
The Food
The menu at Celeste is Italian-American with a Californian twist. Alongside some classic comfort dishes like meatballs in tomato sauce with focaccia, there are lighter options such as kingfish crudo. To finish, there’s a tiramisu worth writing home to Nonna about.
