Joe’s Style Corner: May
May in the UK is a far cry from the Med and its sun-dappled glades, terraces with balmy breezes and blue skies. The temperamental English weather also makes looking stylish that bit more challenging. But not to worry, I’m here to help. Let’s start with my top five recommendations to help you look good, while staying warm and dry, over the coming weeks…
Floral patterns and prints have long divided opinion, and rightly so because they’re easy to get wrong. Recently, though, florals have become more popular as menswear has evolved. In particular, the revitalisation of the Hawaiian-style shirt is one of the greatest things to happen to men’s warm-weather dressing. Whether you are inspired by Tom Selleck as the iconic Magnum P.I. or more recently by Mr Beckham channelling a Miami vibe in his campaign for Maserati, there are plenty of stylish men to draw inspo from. Pair the bold look with some refined tailoring or a separate, sharply tailored summer blazer – or reserve for holidays teamed with plain swim shorts or tailored chinos. There’s no better place to start your Hawaiian shirt crusade than at a shirt-making dynasty like Cordone 1956.
