How To Dress For Party Season
The party season calls for sharp blazers, tailored trousers and smart shoes – but no one wants to see you looking like you’ve come straight from the office. Our guest editor Zach Weiss rounded up four well-dressed men to show us how to style up for festive fun.
Living in New York, I love walking around and seeing the older generations wearing something that has stood the test of time. I try to borrow from their playbook when I can. My favourite pieces in my events wardrobe are my silk robes from New & Lingwood. I wear them as often as I can.

Festive dressing for me is all about trying to add an occasional bit of sparkle – you’ve got to be quite brave sometimes. My favourite piece for this is a Hugo Boss jacket. It only comes out of my closet at Christmas.
- James Darch, Actor
My style at this time of year is a mix of heavy, cosy knits and corduroys with party tuxedos – in fact, I think the ultimate holiday dresser has got to be Kevin McCallister’s dad. My favourite piece in my wardrobe is a vintage 90s Armani tuxedo. A velvet blazer in dark blue is perfect for an evening – it catches the light and makes you feel dressed up.

Festive season is all about being cosy and comfortable, but for events I like a bit of a colour pop. The best thing I’ve ever worn was the suit for my sister's wedding. It was custom made and double breasted in a pastel-green shade. I threw it off with a blue and pink tie.
- Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, Olympic athlete
I draw my inspiration for this time of year from the old Hollywood stars, such as Cary Grant and David Niven. The best look I’ve ever worn for party season is a Ralph Lauren suit I wore a few years ago. It was a silk dressing gown over a pair of white trousers.
