How To Buy The Perfect Sweatshirt

/

Relaxed shapes and styling versatility make sweatshirts must haves. Whether they come from Sunspel or Uniqlo, they can be a great layering piece. This spring, as well as classic, easy-to-wear neutrals, look for on-trend pastels to add a bit of life to your look. Here, Paul Simons – co-owner of Chiltern Street menswear specialist John Simons – shares his top 3 buying tips...

1. Fit is Key

The most important thing is to make sure your sweater is well fitted – not too tight and not too baggy. An oversized sweatshirt will make you look like a man-child and do nothing for your physique.

2. Avoid logos

Plain and simple is more classic and means your sweater can be dropped into more outfits. Be inspired by Steve McQueen in The Great Escape and wear with chinos. Or team it with a good pair of deep indigo selvedge-denim jeans like Levi’s 501s.

3. Buy Quality Cotton

A terry cotton or a fleece back are the best materials to look out for – they’ll cost more but they’ll be worth it.
