Man Bags You Can Take Everywhere

Commute, gym session, business trip, weekend away – Ben Watkiss wanted a single, seriously versatile bag he could take with him wherever he went. So he created Stubble & Co. Today, the brand uses durable fabrics to produce cool, high-quality bags at reasonable prices. Ben tells us what sets his products apart from the rest…

So where exactly did the idea for Stubble & Co come from, Ben?
After ten years of being on the road for a management consulting firm, I’d been through my fair share of bags. I continually struggled to find the perfect bag – one that could be used for short business trips, going to the gym, commuting to work and visiting friends. They either broke easily or had a premium price tag. It seemed crazy there wasn’t a suitable option out there, so we decided to take the plunge and make one.

Why that name?
From day one we wanted to create a brand, not just launch a product. The name Stubble aligns with our brand because it’s rugged, individual and timeless. The brand is about getting out there and exploring, living life to the full – and looking good while doing all of that. And remember, a lot of men look better with stubble…

Where do you find inspiration?
We’re fortunate to have an amazing audience who are really willing to share their views, feedback and suggestions. By simply listening, and asking questions along the way, we’re able to build up a clear picture of what our customers want us to develop next.

Which was the first bag you designed?
The Everyday bag. It’s perfect for travelling to work, the gym and overnight trips away. Made with premium waterproofed canvas and natural full-grain leather, it’s a bag that won’t let you down. We launched it on Kickstarter in 2017, going on to sell 850 of them in 30 days, which clearly showed us there was a gap in the market.

Do you have a favourite?
Our Commuter bag in All Black. It’s my go-to bag most days. We’ve taken inspiration from technical backpacks when designing the strap geometry, which means you don’t have to compromise comfort for style. It’s our bestseller.

Any dream clients?
Just before the Rugby World Cup, one of the England players bought 31 bags – one for each of the squad. That was a very big moment for us. In 2020 we might have to see which other international sports teams we can get carrying a Stubble & Co bag…

Finally, what’s next for Stubble & Co?
A new bag launching in March. I can’t say much more than that now, other than it’s perfect for getting out there and adventuring more. It’s definitely our most exciting product yet.
