Three siblings and their mum are behind this new Afghan restaurant tucked into Leyton’s Tilbury Road arches. The menu is built around family recipes, with beef mantu – delicate dumplings topped with yoghurt and meat sauce – the essential order. The team behind Dorian is bringing together two of its most popular residencies – Urchin and Robin’s Ramen – in one Notting Hill townhouse. Downstairs will be a dedicated ramen bar, while upstairs focuses on contemporary Japanese cooking, with dishes including grilled lobster chazuke and robata-grilled beef.

After popping up around London for the past couple of years, Circle13 is finally putting down roots in London Fields. There’s a pétanque piste, a menu of pintxos and a drinks list that starts with zero-proof highballs, with the option to add booze. The Basque-inspired snacks come from ex-Andrew Edmunds chef Sean Donnelly.

While Pimlico’s two-Michelin-starred A. Wong restaurant takes a break for a refurb, chef Andrew Wong has decamped to the Mandarin Oriental Mayfair for six weeks. There, his £235 Collections of China tasting menu features everything from chrysanthemum tofu to squid flower and a Memories of Peking Duck dim sum.

Elliott Kaye – co-founder of Norman’s, which closed last year – is striking out on his own with a neighbourhood bar on Morning Lane, opening on 10th September. This acclaimed musical about folk legend Woody Guthrie returns to London for the first time in more than a decade. Created and performed by David Lutken and three actor-musicians, it uses Guthrie’s own words, letters and songs to tell his story, from the Dust Bowl and Great Depression to the political movements that shaped his life.
