Drink Like A Pirate

Rhum Tavern

Gin and tequila have had their moments. Now it’s rum’s turn. Rhum Tavern, a theatrical new hotspot in the West End, is the brainchild of Gabriel de-Vere – whose pedigree includes Sketch, Lounge Lover and Mr Fogg’s. His first solo venture is a deep dive into the golden age of piracy, featuring a gold-cast pirate coin bar and custom glassware. The drinks menu boasts London’s largest rum collection, alongside select spirits, surprises and a well-crafted non-alcoholic offering. To soak it up? Small plates including grilled salt beef, baby back ribs and corn ribs. The venue is also home to a rum bottle shop if your supplies are running low.

La Môme Berkeley

La Môme, the Cannes hotspot from Ugo and Antoine Lecorché, has landed in London at The Berkeley, bringing some of the glamour of the French Riviera to Knightsbridge. Samy Chams's peach-hued interiors (in the former home of Marcus Wareing’s Michelin-starred Marcus) set the scene for a Mediterranean menu packed with tableside theatrics. Truffle lovers should dive into the rossini fillet steak draped in Périgourdine sauce, foie gras and black truffle shavings. Alternatively, opt for the grilled seabass, bathed in a white wine vinegar marinade with tomatoes and pine nuts. There are 170 seats inside, 30 on the terrace, and a ten-seater bar shaking up cocktails.

Sunday Funday

The Blue Stoops

The Blue Stoops was one of the coolest openings of last year. Now, the pub on Kensington Church Street – from the team behind Allsopp’s Brewery – is redefining Sunday lunch with exceptional wines and an indulgent menu. Partnering with renowned Bordeaux specialist Tuggy Meyer of Huntsworth Wines, Sundays are all about uncorking rare bottles like Château Patache d'Aux, Château La Tour Carnet and Château Angludet – all of which are served by the glass, carafe or even magnum. Executive chef Lorcan Spiteri and head chef Jacob Farley have put together a seasonal British menu  – small plates include anchovy toast with shallots, pressed potato with mussels and pork, rabbit, and chestnut terrine; while mains feature Hereford beef and Allsopp’s Ale pie, old spot porchetta with swede; and rotating specials like half roast Sutton-Hoo chicken with bread sauce or a grand Côte de Boeuf. Crisp roast potatoes and braised red cabbage round out the feast, with desserts such as forced rhubarb crumble tart, sticky date pudding and meringue with chocolate sauce to finish.
