Guinness x The Cadogan Arms

The first great annual event of the sporting calendar kicks off this weekend with a big one. It’s France vs Ireland on Friday evening, before Italy host England and Scotland head to Wales on Saturday. Get stuck in at Chelsea’s The Cadogan Arms – famous for its roasties and all-round good vibes. This year, the boozer has joined forces with Guinness to craft a Six Nations menu it’s offering for all fifteen matches. Wintry comfort options include buttermilk fried chicken, beef and Guinness pie, and the house-favourite black pudding scotch egg. Can’t wait ’til the weekend? You could give Full Contact a whirl on Netflix – it’s Drive To Survive but for last year’s Six Nations.

Fill Your Boots

Fondue Thursdays at The Cheese Bar

If you didn’t manage to lock in your ski holiday this year, Fondue Thursdays at The Cheese Bar – and its outpost The Cheese Barge in Paddington – will bring a little bit of that après magic to you. Founder Mathew Carver is laying on a collaborative series starring some of London’s hottest chefs, who will put their spins on the classic sharing dish each Thursday during February and March. This month, Tom Mathews and Sian Evans from Chatsworth Bakehouse (the worth-the-queues Crystal Palace sandwich shop) will kick things off with plenty of focaccia. In March, Koya’s Shuko Oda will introduce some Japanese flavours – think tempura and pickled vegetables.

Catch A Film

American Fiction

Nominated in five categories at this year’s Oscars, including Best Picture, American Fiction hits cinemas on Friday 2nd February. Written and directed by Cord Jefferson (The Good Place), the film has an impressive cast: Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Sterling K. Brown, John Ortiz, and Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, The Batman) as the protagonist. It’s based on the novel Erasure by Percival Everett, telling the story of Monk, a novelist who is increasingly disheartened by the establishment's exploitation of clichéd Black entertainment and stereotypes. In response, he writes a satirical book that embraces those clichés. To his dismay, it's lapped up by a clueless audience and becomes his most successful work.

Try A Workout That Gives You Wings

Morley's x Gymbox

“Wings at 2am, legs at 10am”. In homage to the capital’s ‘work hard, play hard’ mentality, London’s favourite chicken shop Morley’s has teamed up with Gymbox to host a one-night challenge to win a year’s membership worth over £1,000. From 6pm to 8pm on Thursday 1st February, Morley’s Brick Lane will be turned into a pop-up Gymbox, complete with PTs, an assault bike, a DJ to soundtrack your workout, and free chicken wings for fuel. Winner winner… You know the rest.

Celebrate Lunar New Year

Speedboat Bar

It’s the Lunar New Year on Saturday 10th of February, but Chinatown favourite Speedboat Bar can’t wait until then. It’s kicking off the celebrations early on Monday 5th February with a special menu. Offering an authentic slice of Bangkok life, the venue salutes to neon-lit Yaowarat Road with stainless-steel tables and kitsch decor. Menu highlights include the umami-heavy gui chai tord sai khai, a pan-fried chive cake loaded with soy sauce and gooey egg yolks, and yam pla salmon – a ceviche dish with chili, lime and wasabi – that recalls the fiery seafood salads of Thailand.
