Boundary Shoreditch

Pidgin and Caravel alumnus Joseph Denison Carey is Boundary Shoreditch’s latest chef in residence. From Tuesdays to Saturdays, he will be leading the dinner service, delivering a menu of Italian-inspired comfort food. Count on grilled onglet with braised lettuce; tagliatelle with tomato, lemon and parsley; grilled leeks with romesco sauce; fried whitebait; and pork and fennel polpette in arrabbiata. Finish with his peach panna cotta or famous tiramisu – made using a recipe passed down from a nonna he stayed with during his tenure at Michelin-starred Ristorante Gellius.

Peter Kennard: Archive of Dissent

London-born artist Peter Kennard is best known for his provocative anti-war imagery and ‘sticking it to the man’ photomontages of political figures of our time. Launched last week, Whitechapel Gallery is looking back over Kennard’s prolific five-decade career in a new exhibition titled Archive of Dissent. Kennard’s works act as a retrospective on the contentious social and political issues of recent history – from the Vietnam War, Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and Anti-Apartheid Movement to present conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza.

Eggbreak X Old Chang Kee

Cult Notting Hill spot Eggbreak is back with another collaboration, this time with Singaporean café Old Chang Kee, which is known for its curry puffs. Starting this week, the café will be serving its own take on the Singaporean breakfast dish nasi lemak, a rice dish, steeped in coconut rice with lemongrass and pandan leaf aromatics. Eggbreak’s iteration will combine Old Chang Kee’s homemade sambal and chicken curry, with fresh cucumber, crispy fried egg, onion and chillies – served at both the original Notting Hill café and its new long-term residency at Shoreditch's The Hoxton. There’s more: the collaboration is going both ways. At both Old Chang Kee’s locations – Covent Garden and Fitzrovia – there will be a special Eggbreak BBQ Pulled Lamb Puff, a Singaporean hot savoury pastry filled with tender lamb and boiled egg.

Didi

Didi picked up the Audience Award and Special Jury Award for Best Ensemble Cast at this year’s Sundance Film Festival – and now it’s landing in cinemas. Set in the San Francisco Bay Area in Myspace era 2008, it tells the story of a Taiwanese-American boy and his last summer before high school begins. Didi (which means ‘younger brother’ in Chinese) is a coming-of-age story in which Chris faces the issues of a normal teen – girls, parents, skating – as well as a cultural gap between him and his peers.

Take In A Show

The Hot Wing King

The National Theatre’s production of Katori Hall’s The Hot Wing King – a Pulitzer prize-winning comedy – is a ‘kitchen sink’ play with an actual kitchen sink. The drama centres on a team of five gay Black men, who are making a sauce to end all sauces for the ‘Hot Wangs’ contest in Memphis, Tennessee, when underlying tensions come to a boil. The play deals with the challenges of gay masculinity and how to be a good father, brother, nephew, son and husband with nuance, relatability and wit.

The House Of Q

Aston Martin’s DB5 coupe is 007’s vehicle of choice, first appearing in Connery’s Goldfinger (1964) all the way to Craig’s No Time To Die (2021). To celebrate the car’s iconic debut 60 years ago, Burlington Arcade’s The House Of Q has launched a pop-up experience with Aston Martin and Bollinger. At first look, the spot appears to be a newsstand but, inside, guests will discover a gold Champagne Bollinger bar adorned with schematics and parts of the original DB5. Plus, there are hints of a new Aston Martin model on the display.

Burlington Arcade, 51 Piccadilly, Mayfair, W1J 0QJ; until 4th August
